Pine River Revitalization
One of the ways that the Pine River Revitalization groups hopes to continue to bring interest to our Downtown is through aesthetically interesting and unique elements. A suggestion that is creating quite a bit of intrigue is the idea of Plaid. Not just any plaid but the Paul Bunyan-esque red and black buffalo plaid. PRR is looking into the possibility of flags along Barclay in this plaid. People like the plaid idea because it can speak to the different histories of the area - agriculture, logging, trains, etc. What do you think?
The PRR group is also looking into bike lanes along Barclay. This would offer a clear path for bicyclists traveling on the Paul Bunyan Recreation Trail to visit downtown Pine River and the Dam Park.
Progress Toward Beach Continues
We are getting closer and closer to making the swimming beach a reality. Thank you for hanging on for the ride, we know it's been a long one.
This week, permit paperwork was submitted to the DNR to update the permit for the swimming beach. Amending the permit is just to recognize that since our permit was approved in 2011 we've made some design updates and gone through a design process with Widseth Smith Nolting.
Once the permit is amended, an addendum will be sent out to interested landscape/excavation companies for them to submit bids. Bids will allow the Dam Park Task Force to apply for grant dollars. Most grants require somewhat detailed budgets and selecting a bid will provide the numbers necessary to compile a budget for the project.
The Dam Park Task Force is excited to announce this year's annual fundraiser will be a Wine & Beer Tasting at Bites, May 18th. More details to come!
Downtown/MainStreet ---> Pine River Revitalization
Last month at the MainStreet/Downtown meeting- - two big discussions took place. One around what to call the group - the working name is Pine River Revitalization!
The other big discussion was around a mission statement - the working mission is: Provide a Thriving, Sustainable Community with a Compelling Identity.
How do you feel about the name and/or mission? Share your comments at the next meeting - Tuesday, 2/19/13 @ 6pm at the Depot.
Swimming Beach Design & Plan
Progress creeps forward on the swimming beach at the Dam Park. A design and construction plan are finished and available for contractors to review and submit bids for installation. The DPTF is striving for a Spring 2013 installation of the beach. This installation is contingent on funding. The task force is posed to submit grants once the construction costs are known. In the meantime the DPTF continues to raise funds through it's Buy a Brick Campaign. The 3rd Annual Walleye Fish Fry will take place on May 18, 2013; profits from the fish fry will be used for beach installation too.
The construction plan can be found by clicking on the above picture. In addition, paper copies or emailed versions are available, contact Quinn.
